The Beat Goes on at Temple City's Annual Summer Concert Series

Slate of 11 free outdoor concerts kicks off June 13 at Temple City Park.

TEMPLE CITY, CA (June 1, 2018)—Get ready to stake out your spot under the stars: Temple City’s beloved annual summer concert series is rocking and rolling back into town with an opening performance set for Wednesday, June 13.

Kicking off the 2018 season in style is Phat Cat Swinger, a Vegas-style “little big band” whose jumping rhythms and roaring horns will transport audiences back to Rat Pack-era Sin City for the night.

Weekly performances will continue on Wednesday evenings through Aug. 29, with the exception of July 4. All shows are free, open to the public and scheduled to begin promptly at 7 p.m. at Temple City Park’s iconic Performing Arts Pavilion.

“Temple City’s summer concert series has a 22-year history, and it’s not hard to understand why,” said Temple City Mayor William Man. “Our summer concerts combine world-class entertainment with a small-town feel that can’t easily be replicated—they’re perfect places to spend time with friends and family and bond with new neighbors over our shared love of music.”

Rounding out the 2018 roster of performers are acts representing a broad spectrum of genres, from classic rock to contemporary R&B. Fan-favorites who plan to return to the pavilion’s stage include oldies and doo-wop band Sharon & the Chevelles (July 25), Motown cover group Stone Soul (Aug. 15) and Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute act Fortunate Son (Aug. 29).

In addition, two new groups will make their Temple City debuts this summer: piano rockers The Kings of 88, who will pay homage to Billy Joel, Elton John and Ray Charles, among others, and the Skinny Little Twits, whose repertoire draws on the music of classic-rock greats such as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Tom Petty.

Both food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue. Guests should plan to arrive early with their own blankets and chairs, as each performance typically attracts more than 1,500 concertgoers.

The full schedule is as follows, although all performances are subject to change:

June 13: Phat Cat Swinger (Vegas-style swing)

June 20: Mrs. Jones’ Revenge (classic rock)

June 27: My Generation (British Invasion tribute)

July 11: Yard Sale (top hits)

July 18: Dallas & Doll (pop and R&B)

July 25: Sharon & the Chevelles (oldies)

Aug. 1: The Replicas (variety)

Aug. 8: The Kings of 88 (piano rock hits)

Aug. 15: Stone Soul (Motown)

Aug. 22: Skinny Little Twits (classic rock)
