Volunteers are needed for this year's count on Jan. 22, 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., to try and accurately count the number of homeless people in Temple City.
The annual homeless count, organized by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, gathers information to determine and request how much federal funding is needed for homeless services programs, both countywide and in the San Gabriel Valley.
On the night of the count, volunteers will first check into City Hall for training, maps, materials and their assignments. Volunteer teams will then be deployed to specific areas in the community to count the homeless from their vehicle.
Work to be done by volunteers is considered a passive count. Volunteers will not approach or engage the homeless for safety reasons.
