Boards & Committees
The City Council appoints various boards, commissions, and committees to support the City Council in the policymaking and decision making processes.
The Oversight Board, while listed on this page, was created by state law to oversee matters related to the dissolution of the Redevelopment Agency. The membership of the Oversight Board is dictated by state statute.
Membership: Committee members are typically Temple City residents but may also be other community stakeholders such as business owners or representatives from other agencies. Membership requirements differ and are typically determined at the time the committee is established.
Term: Committee members serve varying terms, depending on the committee. Often committees are established for a limited term, with members serving from the time of appointment until the committee is dissolved at the conclusion of its business.
Can Members Serve on Other Committees? Yes, a member of one committee could potentially serve on another committee. Similarly, a member of a commission could serve on one or more committees.
Can Elected Officials Serve? One or two City Council members may serve on a committee as a representative of, or liaison to, the City Council. In addition, the mayor appoints standing committees and ad hoc committees of the City Council to focus on particular issues. These committees consist of two City Council members and do not have any other appointed members.
Compensation: Committee members are not compensated for their service. City Council members are compensated for their service but do not receive any additional compensation for serving on a standing committee, ad hoc committee, or other committee.
